Books designed during completion of Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design at Boston University
In an assignment to define the word "borders" with the limitation of using only colored paper (no white), I designed and printed a booklet by curating and creating content. For my interpretation, I focused on the idea of cultural borders and how they affect our relationships with one another, especially in the context of political conflicts and wars. It is important to cross borders in order to understand another culture.
"Candid" explores what happens when high fashion brands' ready-to-wear runway photos and quotes taken from the Instagram account @OverheardLA are put into the same context. Being from Los Angeles, I have overheard many ridiculous things that would only be said by someone from LA. I often find myself relating to the account due to how the city has influenced my personality. Pairing two seemingly unrelated topics may get you to look at them in a different light and pokes a little fun at the term "ready-to-wear" in high fashion. Clear acetate paper lets the reader experience the runway photos through the lens of OverheardLA and also alone.
For a text-only assignment, I created a 72-page anthology book on the science and psychology of the concept of "retail therapy" and how we experience it. Each page is designed to look like a receipt from a department store, and the book contains excerpts from "Confessions of a Shopaholic" by Sophia Kinsella.
As an assignment for a typography course where I created an anthology book about the reality TV shows, "The Bachelor" and "The Bachelorette." The book explores whether the love found on the show is "real" or not.
